DAD STORIES: “COMEDY”

Talking shop with my old man.

“Ya still havin’ fun with comedy, Andy?”

“Yeah, for sure.”

“Do you ever talk about me on stage?”

“Sometimes.”

“I’m sure glad you got me to make fun of.”

“I’m not making fun of you, I’m celebrating you. I’ll bet I make a lot of people want to hang out with you.”

“I already got too many people who want to hang out with me. Everybody wants me to take ’em fishing but I’m not gonna. They can find their own dang holes!”

“Oh.”

“What else you talk about? When do you find time to make your skits or whatever they are?”

“Just whenever I guess. I like writing stuff on stage sometimes.”

“You take a pad it up there with you?”

“Well, no, I don’t literally write up there. I just have an idea and bullshit and sometimes material comes from it.”

“Please don’t swear!”

“Sorry.”

“Just standing up there and bullshitting — that’s not writing!”

“I guess you’re right.”

“Here ya are, always talking about writing, like your Stephen King or something!”

“Yeah.”

“At least you’re not writing about Satan worshipers like he is though. It’s probably better for you to do your perverted stuff. Just don’t call it writing, call it thinking up perverted stuff.”
